Our Ocean Innovator, IPNLF, shares their journey to the far reaches of remote Indonesia, to a small village named Kawa, where they managed to catch a ride with a local handline tuna fisher. Yayasan IPNLF Indonesia's innovation project is deploying off-the-grid, solar-powered ice-making machines in remote fishing communities in East Indonesia, collaborating with Kawa fishers, to produce quality yellowfin tuna intended for high-value markets. This initiative is combined with fishers upskilling to improve handling practices, cold chain protocols, financial literacy, and asset management, ultimately enhancing livelihoods in a climate-friendly manner.
