The Ocean Race Summit was organized by the Ocean Race in collaboration with UNDP, the Government of Cabo Verde, IUCN, and Earth Law Center. The Summit was the final leg of a process that has gathered together over 150 experts, policymakers, business leaders, lawyers, Indigenous Peoples, scientists, NGOs, and other stakeholders to develop principles on ocean rights that could form the basis of a potential Universal Declaration of Ocean Rights.
Ulrika Modéer, UN Assistant Secretary-General and UNDP Director of the Bureau of External Relations and Advocacy, spoke about UNDP's work to preserve and conserve marine ecosystems and strengthen blue economies. She emphasized the UNDP Ocean Innovation Challenge's exceptional work in providing mentorship and financing to support ocean innovations globally.
