The fashion industry is a major source of microplastics in the oceans. Microplastics, although not easily visible to the naked eye, are ubiquitous. Microfibre shedding from textiles contributes to microplastic pollution. UNDP Ocean Innovator Forum for the Future will undertake cutting-edge research needed to understand the impact of each of the various stages of the textile manufacturing process on microfiber fragmentation and release. On International Women's Day, we also put the spotlight on the women leading this innovation.
