The fashion industry is a major source of microplastics in the oceans. While the source of the issue (textiles) and the consequences (microplastic pollution) were evident, there is little understanding of exactly how microfibers are shed, which leads to them being released from laundry and municipal wastewater into the environment. Forum for the Future's ocean innovation seeks solutions to reducing ocean microplastic pollution from fashion textiles.
